Hawzah News Agency- The programme opened with chest-beating elegies led by Movement poet Shamsi Fudiyya, followed by a brief dramatic presentation by members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria’s drama group.
Thereafter, the flag of Imam Husain (AS) was raised, symbolizing the commencement of this year’s Ashura mourning season.
A speech was then delivered by the representative of Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky’s disciples in Kano District, Dr. Sunusi Abdulkadir Kano. He began by discussing the Islamic New Year, which commenced on that day. He also encouraged the faithful to refer to the Mafatihul Jinan prayer book in order to observe the recommended supplications for the first day of the Islamic year.
He further offered condolences to the faithful over the tragic events that befell the family of the Messenger of Allah during the first ten days of the Islamic year. He stated that, according to some scholars, the origins of those who planned these events can be traced back to those who first opposed the Prophet’s instructions at Saqifah. He added that had such individuals not paved the way, tyrants such as Yazid would not have risen to power and committed the atrocities for which they are remembered.
Dr. Sunusi also reminded the audience that while they celebrate the arrival of a new year, they should remember that their own lifespan is gradually diminishing.
He urged both men and women to contribute food according to their means during the mourning gatherings, noting that feeding others brings both spiritual reward and blessings in one’s sustenance.
